I too have done joint probates, but caution that if there are tax issues involved, the IRS and banking system doesn't really recognize joint probates. If you need an EIN for sale of stocks or bonds, or even real property, it can be an issue. I have also had banks push back on opening an estate account with an EIN for 2nd to die spouse and letters for a joint probate. The filing fee is simply not enough of a drawback for me and when I explain it to clients, often decide to simple do two probates except for the simplest situations.

60-year marriage, Dad passed first in 2010, but intestate; mom next 5 years later with Will - neither probated. Can I do one probate?  Or do I do a LOPA for Dad? Thanks Mike
