Interesting. I too have found DOL for a very long time to be remarkably casual about transferring titles to a dead person’s automobile. I’ve never needed a Form K. (I actually checked the thread because I thought it was about a misnamed Schedule K-1!) I have seen it on the EPVC page of the King Co. eFile page. I am pretty sure you can order them directly that way without having to present anything in Ex Parte.

Weird—20 years ago I used to get Form Ks but then I had the same experience you have—clients kept reporting that DMV changed title with just a death cert and sometimes Letters and/or a copy of the Will. So I haven’t ordered a Form K in ages, and have not had a problem.

In King County, I do know that you can order Form K via Ex Parte via the Clerk when initiating a probate; there’s an option to get one at the same time that you ask for Letters. I’m not sure how to get one after the probate is opened, though. I think you’ll have to call the clerk’s office.

Sincerely,

Atty in office said DMV now requires a $2 form K from the Superior Ct to change Title - and, Court will not email it out like it does the Letters but requires an in-person pickup.

To this day, every client I have had just took the Death Cert and a copy of the Will and their ID to local DMV and changed title. Can anyone else verify that DMV is requiring a K form and if yes, any ideas on how to get Court to email or mail it?

Thanks

Mike
