Eric,

First I’ll say that sounds on par for my limited CA experience – just to get into the probate court takes months (was bad before covid and worse since).  Second, I bet if you sent a letter asking for an inventory and status update for your client they would send it to you.  I personally would try that because you’re just collecting information.  If it feels off after that you can look for local counsel there but my personal experience is that CA courts and counselors run slower than usual 😉  No offense to my CA peeps – a lot more people there I suppose makes it different.

Existing client of mine is heir under a Will probated in Ventura County, California (on the coast between Santa Barbara and L.A.). Probate has gone on for about 18 months and he’s concerned about status. Needs a probate lawyer to help him find out status of the estate and make sure all is kosher. Any potential referral? Modest estate—a house and some bank accounts, I understand.
