I recently opened an estate account at Chase with Co-PRs, but they required signatures from both PRs stating either could access the account and withdraw funds.

Best regards,

A couple of years ago we were able to have each co-PR sign an delegation of duties to the other (essentially allowing each to act alone) and they were able to open an account at Bank of America.

Ditto here – in fact, I think Wells Fargo has gone to this policy. If not them another big bank like them.

If the Co-Prs get along, one may delegate the sole banking authority to the other, or they can find a new bank.

Also, as has already been pointed out an Estate has it’s own EIN to open accounts. The same EIN is used regardless of how many PRs there are.

BECU is not alone, I have found it quite challenging to find banks willing to open accounts for Co-PRs.

Subject: [WSBAPT] Co-PRs and BECU estate account

Good morning,

I have a client who has tried to open an estate bank account for her dad's estate using her social for the EIN since she is co-PR with her stepsister, who is represented by a different attorney . BECU is telling her they can't open an account with joint PRs. I know we have had co-PRs open estate accounts jointly previously with one opening the account and either allowed to sign. Is this a BECU issue or are they giving her the wrong information?

Sincerely,

Suzanne Lieberman
