[WSBAPT] Transfer Agent refuses to honor Certified Copy of Letters

 I agree Computershare is a nightmare, especially with postingmultiple bonds. I called with my client in my office, and I arguedwith the rep and he hung up. Called back and he pretended hewas someone else, I called him on it and he hung up again. Thirdcall, not much better. I wrote a demand letter saying they hada conflict of interest because they were co-owners of the bondcompany and their delay was the reason the bond period lapsed.I sent it through the registered agent in WA and another one to their legal dept. That worked.

If by “this” you mean finding Computershare being difficult, making up rules as they go, etc. then yes.

I also ran into this issue with a local Big Bank lately. Even speaking with the branch manager didn’t help. They kept asking for “original” letters, saying if it said “copy” anywhere on the document it wouldn’t work. We finally had the Court issue what I always called the super special letters, the ones with a raised seal and the “full force and effect” stamp the clerk can put on them. That (or different person different day) worked.

Dear Listserv members,

Deceased had stock with Apple, but PR unable to locate stock certificate.  An affidavit of lost stock certificate, along with a signed Certified copy of the Letters, sent to Computershare, the transfer agent. 

Computershare refuses to process the affidavit, stating that they require an “original court-certified Letter of Appointment”.   Their reason?Computershare states that the document says “certified copy”, which, of course, it does.  We have been unable to convince them that the certified copy, signed by the Clerk, is an original.  Has anyone run into this before?
