I think the clerk heard us. King County is now allowing Probate hearings on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Hopefully this clears up some of the backlog. New calendar note should be up on the clerk’s website.

Thanks, Kerry.  But the real problem, imho, is the reality that most such hearings are a waste of time; they should be done on papers only, or with telephone appearances.  The money, time and risk it takes for multiple folks to show up in person for a perfunctory ‘hearing’ is insanity; who does it benefit??

Dear Listmates:
Maybe other counties could provide a quicker hearing schedule. I have not checked any of the other counties nearby and ascertained what they have to offer, however given that a probate can be filed in any county, you might want to consider going to a county that can accommodate a quicker hearing schedule. Again, I am offering an idea without knowing the availability of the surrounding counties. Travel might be an issue, however, if a hearing can occur so much faster maybe the travel is worthwhile.

Yep, that has happened to me as well. Earliest available hearing date for a filing appears to be running about 5-1/2 to 6 weeks from date of filing.

I am frustrated with the limited 3 days of probate hearings in King County.
I noted a matter for November 3 and online showed available so I filed Friday.
Today, I get an email – that calendar is full so pick another date.
So now we are more than 5 weeks out from getting a hearing date.
Some filings have statute of limitations issues so forcing me to file for intervention powers just to get estate opened.

Snohomish already limits to one day a week – Tuesday.
