That said, if the funeral home is being given conflicting instructions, they may need to get proof of marriage or similar.

This a new one for me.   H dies and Neptune Society pics up the body and cremation is done.  H's son, from a prior marriage, asserts the right to deal with his father's ashes.  W disagrees.  Its her spouse.  Has anyone ever dealt with this?
