Hi Brent,
That sounds terrible. I don’t handle medical insurance disputes, but I had a probate with a similar problem. Decedent had Medishare and they did not want to cover lung cancer issues (smoking). I think the Christian health policies explicitly exclude things they think are “sinful” or “reckless”. PC could check with the Office of the Insurance Commissioner about filing a complaint or appeal directly https://www.insurance.wa.gov/how-appeal-health-insurance-denial
Best,
Nick

Subject: [WSBAPT] Potential Client - Seeking Referrals for Creditor/Bankruptcy matter

Greetings List -

I have a PC with an interesting probate/bankruptcy/medical insurance denial claim(s). Here is what I know.

PC lives in Puyallup. His wife passed on 9/11/2020. The health insurer - claimed to be Liberty Healthshare denied coverage for final illness/death because illness was Cirrhosis of the liver. Allegedly, the policy did not cover claims for that type of ailment.

Final bills are between $180,000 - $190,000. Decedent had no real assets other than an equity stake in real property. TWIST - PC just completed a refinance of the property, removing the Decedent's name from title approximately 2-3 weeks ago. Home value is $425k; mortgage balance is $307k.

No legal proceeding had yet to be covered.

Seeking a referral who can
a) assist with potential creditor claims/bankruptcy
b) review the denial of coverage from the health insurer.

If this sounds like something you or a colleague in your firm (or you know someone who takes these types of cases) please send me a message at brent at williams-ruthlaw.com<mailto:brent at williams-ruthlaw.com>.

Thank you!
Brent
