[WSBAPT] Governor's Stay Home order - EP as essential services?

I don’t know, but I’m still doing it.

I’ve got clients who are on the verge of death from other conditions. They have capacity and they have the legal right to determine where their assets will go after death - and it’s not in accordance with the laws of intestate succession.

I’m staying socially distant. I doing everything I can to abide by the order but we deal with issues that cannot be changed after death with express statutes as to what is valid and what is not. Additionally, no one can create a will for another person.

Will gladly spend my time after this is over fighting any fines or trouble that may come my way. My clients come first. It was part of my oath of becoming an attorney.

Whether it’s ER doc, dying cancer patient, or neighbor who’s just feeling like they need to get their affairs in order - for as long as I’m able to talk, I will help people create their estate plans.

I am doing EP for an emergency-room doctor and I know there are several others doing similar work. But it seems there should be, at the least, a listing of essential services such as "estate planning legal services for persons in essential business services." Ideally it would be just "estate planning legal services" without restriction; after all, anyone could become ill.

During this time, our attorneys are able to make and receive telephone calls; access all of our documents and servers; and access emails and voicemails. Our Seattle and Vashon offices remain open with limited staffing to maintain critical functions, and to route phone calls, mail, and deliveries. Our Olympia office is closed. Attorney/client meetings will be handled by teleconference where able, and signatures for estate planning or real estate transactions/closings will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Many of the local courts have postponed trials and hearings, or are moving them to telephonic proceedings only. We are keeping up to date on those court closures and changes, and will advise each client, accordingly.
