Does anyone have a step-by-step guide
for registering or filing a Washington
Judgment as a foreign judgment in Texas
(Dallas County)? After reviewing
numerous cites regarding procedure and
even place of registering (the court
clerk and the recorder appear to share
personnel and functions), the statutes
/ rules I have accessed are difficult
to interpret. For example, the statute
for enforcement of a foreign judgment
states that a copy of the “foreign
judgment authenticated in according
with an act of congress or a statute of
this state” may be filed in the clerk’s
office” but does not provide the
requirements or form of authentication
that is required. The TX counsel I
have contacted charge huge rates that
would absorb 1/3 – ½ of the modest
supplemental judgment that needs to be
filed/recorded. Any explanation would
be appreciated.
