[WSBAPT] Bond renewal question--guardianship

Dear Listmates,

I don't know if any of you practice in the guardianship area and could help with this.  I'm in the process of transferring a WA guardianship of person and estate (alleged incapacitated adult) to the State of CA.  The guardian was appointed in April 2018, and the WA guardianship bond is about to expire.  The bonding company has sent a notice that if the bond is not exonerated before 4/30/19, the full amount will be owed (the annual premium is more than $1,500.00).

The WA Court already entered a provisional transfer order to CA, but the CA process will take about 2 ½ months longer before the transfer is approved in that state.  I don't see why my client should have to pay for a full year's bond if the WA bond will be exonerated approximately one month after renewal.  The bond company will not refund any of the premium if after 4/30, I've checked.  I also checked to make sure my client can't carry over the same bond in CA; he can't.  He will need to obtain a new bond in CA.  So I wondered if anyone has had a similar experience?  If you have dealt with this and have any advice, I'd appreciate it.  I suppose I could go into the WA court and ask if they would exonerate the bond a month early, but I don't know how the commissioners would receive that.
