[WSBAPT] Out of Business Charity

Good morning and Happy 4th of July!

Just before wrapping up an estate we received notice that a local charity who was a residuary beneficiary of the estate has closed their doors. All that remains is a minor distribution-less than $8,000 to be divided between 7 residuary beneficiaries equally. The charity provided us less than 8 days notice before closing their doors.

Normally, when I run into a matter similar to this the entity is defunct before I set out to administer the estate.

So do I have to go back to court to deal with this bequest? If so, I would ask that all fees be deducted from the share to the now defunct charity-essentially leaving very little remaining-as my client and I do not believe that the other remaining beneficiaries should have to be responsible for this unfortunate turn of events.

Any easier routes would be appreciated. Thoughts?

Thanks!
