[WSBAPT] Heir Search Company

I have found that hiring a genealogist is a very economical alternative to hiring an heir search service. They normally work at reasonable hourly rates. You can find an heir searcher or genealogist by state at https://www.apgen.org/. Locally (Oregon), many people recommend Leslie Lawson - Lawsonresearch.net.

Subject: [WSBAPT] Heir Search Company

Dear Listmates:

I have an intestate probate and the decedent, has no spouse, no children, no siblings, father pre-deceased, and mother abandoned him and his father when he was an infant. I hired a local investigation company to try to track down mom, and they had no luck. Decedent has uncles and cousins on paternal side, but we have no idea if there are any heirs living on maternal side. The cousin I am working with says family lore is that mom probably used a fictitious name on birth certificate. We also have a marriage certificate for mom and dad that occurred when child was 5 years old (1960), the family story is that the parents married then immediately divorced (or annulled the marriage). The marriage was only to arrange for legal custody of child in dad. However, again the name may be fictitious, and there are no divorce records I can find in Washington.

Soooo, I'm thinking my next move is to hire a professional heir search company. I've exhausted my internet search skills without any luck. Does anyone know what the court will do if we are unable to locate mom, or any death or birth records for mom? Also if anyone has a recommendation for a good heir search company please pass it along. Thanks.
