[WSBAPT] Name Issue

My brother did this after college, he is now 73, but he finally did a name change to make sure no problem with SS and passport. But for a long time even SS took his pseudonym and issued a new card just on his word. But that was pre 9/11. These days you cannot even make a cash deposit at BOA without showing ID unless the tellers know you really really really well, so get a legal name change.

Subject: [WSBAPT] Name Issue

Hello,

I have a client whose first name appears as "Shirley" on her birth certificate and social security card. She decided to change the spelling (on her own, not legally) post middle school, so everything else is spelled as "Shirlee" i.e. driver's license, wedding license, bank accounts, deeds, properties, and all estate planning documents.

Will this be an issue? If so what needs to be done to correct it? A legal name change? Has anyone dealt with such an issue before?

Thanks,

Setareh
