In law school, the following case was studied by me and my fellow classmates: http://law.justia.com/cases/california/supreme-court/2d/69/200.html
The estate was left to Roxy Russell, which was proven to be an Airedale Dog, according to the opinion (which point was referenced numerous times; becoming laughable to my classmates). 
Left such an impression, that following  completion of school, I named by new dog Roxy.
 
Moral of the story: dogs are not people and may not inherit estates outright; trusts are necessary to provide for non-humans.

Would somebody share with me a Will provision to establish a trust for a dog? 
 
The clients’ current Will has an elaborate Trust for a dog that has now passed. It has very specific provisions about the lodging and care of the dog, for which I understand the desire, but who would monitor such care after the owners’ deaths? With the current dog, they would like to have a provision to return her to the breeder upon their passing, but with sufficient funds to care for the dog for the remainder of her days. I would expect that at least one of the couple may outlive the current dog, but would perhaps obtain another dog prior to passing.
