[WSBAPT] law clerk - Rule 6

[Wickert Law]

The Rule 6 Law Clerk Program does have a waiver to allow a tutor to be someone other than an employer.  The tough part is finding a tutor and employer who can outline a cohesive and sensible plan on how the clerk, tutor, and employer will communicate and work with each other so the spirit and regulations of the program are honored. Talia Clever at WSBA can answer more pros and cons about such arrangement.

My partner and I mentored one of our paralegals through the process. Very rewarding. She's now got her own successful practice. But yes - took four years. 

 

My recollection is the Clerk has to be employed in the office of the mentor. Is that not the case?

Fellow Law Clerks:

My name is Brian Gieszler. I am a Rule 9 intern in Richland, WA. I write to you today due to the recent retirement of my primary tutor with only six months remaining in my program. I have reached out to local attorneys and have had several interviews but none are able to help me out at this time. My original plan was to sit for the Bar in February 2017 but that is no longer an option. My hope now is to be ready for the summer 2017 exam if I can complete the program in time. I was forced to request leave for the month of July 2017 with a reevaluation of my situation at the end of July, which is fast approaching.

I am now reaching out to the Law Clerk community to see if anyone knows of an attorney in Washington State who would be able to assist me for these final remaining months. Obviously I would prefer someone close to my area but at this point I have to consider all options. I have extensive history in family law and bankruptcy and am also well versed in collections, adoptions, appeals, evictions, probates, and estates. If you know of anyone who would be willing to assist me I would greatly appreciate their contact information. As I’m sure all of you can relate, I have put a tremendous amount of time and effort into this journey and it would be an immense disappointment if I were unable to complete the program, especially being this close to completion.
