Eric’s story reminds me of an international exchange student we hosted for some years, whose strict father was going to return her to Japan and all the family expectations of settling down into a “good” marriage, upon her completion of a college degree.  It’s amazing how many classes one can take without graduating…  it went on for years - twice involving changing majors at the last minute.  ;)
