There are policies for unoccupied homes, but it is definitely higher.  Some policies simply require a certain amount of supervision/visitation in order to remain in compliance.

Yes. This is always an issue. There are insurers who will cover a house during administration under the estate. Have the client do some comparison shopping. Sometimes you can maintain coverage if a family member spend maybe one weekend per month in the house.

PR (daughter and sole beneficiary of decedent) was informed by the insurance company (Hartford) that they would not be renewing the policy on the estate’s house because it is now unoccupied. Somehow I’ve managed not to run into this issue before. Is anyone aware of other insurance companies that would insure an unoccupied home? It will not be sold right away.
