[WSBAPT] what to do with worthless securities

In estates where decedent held what appear to be worthless securities (no apparent market or value), is there a best practice recommendation in terms of disposition? We have an estate where the decedent owned a lot of old mining stocks for companies that no longer exist. The residual beneficiaries for the estate are all tax-exempt organizations. We want what is best for the beneficiaries, and to make sure we are protecting our PR.

Does it make sense to seek a court order, perhaps at the time of closing the estate?

Thanks in advance?

Kate
