                I recently had a similar issue arise in California.  The title company told me about a "Heggstad Petition," which is supposed to be quicker and less expensive than an ancillary probate.  Here is the information they sent me:

My law partner's elderly estate planning clients died (yes, both husband and wife, close in time to one another) after their estate plan was finalized but before they were able to complete the transfer into their RLT of their California real estate - located in Indio, Riverside County.  We are therefore looking for California counsel, ideally in Riverside County, who can assist with an ancillary probate.
