[WSBAPT] GAL to be appointed for minor in petition for opening intestate probate

I am being appointed administrator for a deceased, young 23 year old
defendant in a personal injury action.  There is appropriate insurance to
cover the deceased defendant and injuries caused.  The problem is, there was
a minor child who is now living with the grandparents.  They want nothing to
do with the probate/estate b/c their daughter had nothing.

 

Is there a separate petition to appoint the GAL for the minor child when
opening a probate for the deceased parent.  There was a big battle over
custody and the father of the child, who lost parental rights.  RCW 11.88
appears to allow exception to appointment but only if I can find someone who
is the legal guardian.  The grandparents do not want to be involved in this
probate.  I believe there will be creditor's claims due to the deceased 23
year old died of cancer and was living at home with her parents and her
child.

 

Any assistance on how to proceed would be nice.

It is a Kitsap County case.

 

P.S.  I am at the Title 11 GAL training for the next 2 days.  This topic
does not appear to be on the agenda.
