attorney; her name comes up in a zip code search on the National Academy of
Elder Law Attorneys website. She is certainly qualified to evaluate your
client's aunt's situation.

Hi, all,

 

A client who lives in Seattle has an aunt in LA.  The aunt is old but
generally mentally competent and lives in an assisted living facility.  She
has three living relatives, including my Seattle client and two WA
step-relatives.  

 

She has a financial planner who has connected her with an accountant and an
attorney (who are married to each other).  The planner is now her AIF for
finances and the accountant is her AIF for health care.  I assume, but don't
know for sure, that the attorney-spouse made this happen.  

 

My client would like to talk to an attorney in LA about checking into the
legitimacy of this arrangement and possibly changing the AIF to relatives.
She will travel to LA to meet with someone.  In case it helps, the aunt's
zip code is 90041.
