[WSBAPT] Musical Instrument Appraiser

Is there such a thing as a licensed appraiser of musical instruments? I
think the best you can do is find an "expert" who would likely qualify
under ER 702--someone qualified by experience and vocation to determine
value. That's likely an auctioneer or someone else who routinely buys and
sells instruments as a business, or perhaps an instrument maker or
repairer/restorer. If the instruments are of historical or other special
value, perhaps a specialized antique dealer could help.

Sincerely,

Eric

Subject: [WSBAPT] Musical Instrument Appraiser

Good afternoon,

I am working on the administration of an estate wherein there is a
significant collection of musical instruments (primarily woodwinds). Can
anyone recommend an appraiser for the instruments? I have found someone
that seems quite experienced, but he is not a licensed appraiser. What
would be the potential pitfalls of using an experienced but unlicensed
appraiser?

Thank you!
