[SPAM] RE: [WSBAPT] Medicaid

As you can imagine, if you ask that question to 50 attorneys you’ll get
fifty different answers. For example, maybe it isn’t the ‘best’ business
model, but we currently charge for Medicaid application preparation on an
hourly basis, typically requesting an advance of $1,500.00. The caveat is
that such an approach is not the best where the legal fee is part of the
Medicaid spend down plan (which isn’t the case your proposing). In that
case, and depending upon potential CSRA/ineligibility issues, etc. , it is
in the best interest of the parties for there to be a flat fee
arrangement.

Thus, per the scenario you proposed a flat fee (free of hiccups) in my
humble opinion, for what it is worth, would be more akin to $750-$1500.

Good advice regarding their options is exactly what I am looking for; what
kind of ballpark figure should one expect for such advice? Is $3000 a
reasonable fee for this? They aren’t looking for free, just fair.

I have always considered assistance with the application the practice of
law, and have held feet to the fire where “do gooders” get involved.
Although this seems a simple application process

They are entitled to good advice re options.

I would recommend they go to the local DSHS office for assistance. They
appear to be under the CSRA limit, which should make qualifying easy.

Subject: [WSBAPT] Medicaid

Close friends in Spokane need to apply for Medicaid. They have a house
with a reverse mortgage, $20k in savings, and are living on the husband’s
pension. Husband’s death is imminent. The attorney they spoke to in
Spokane wanted $3000 to assist with filling out the Medicaid paperwork.
Client says she filled out Medicaid paperwork for her husband’s parents
without issue. Is there any reason they need an attorney to help with
this? If so, what is a reasonable fee for this type of assistance?

Thanks in advance.
