A friend is looking for advice/counsel in Sequim.  Complicated situation,
here is the Reader’s Digest version:

 

Elderly Dad is estranged from kids, having little or no contact for
decades.  Lots of hard feelings.  Dad lives with girlfriend for many
years, she passed away some time ago.  Adult daughter gets phone call that
Dad is in a bad way, a visit to his home in Sequim finds that he is living
in filth, barely moving from a chair and in pretty bad shape.  Dad taken
to hospital, currently closing in on 100 days in a nursing home facility.
Daughter finds POA recorded in County twenty years ago that named her as
POA.  Review of finances reveals that $400,000.00 in savings is gone.  Dad
admits he gave it to his girlfriend’s daughter and/or granddaughter over
the past few years.  Apparently, at some point, Adult Protective Services
came and talked to him and subsequently closed the investigation with no
further action.  Phone call to daughter came when savings ran out.
Potential client is adult daughter POA.
