Not sure about recording, but the court rule is
GR 31…
(e) Personal Identifiers Omitted or Redacted from Court Records
(1) Except as otherwise provided in GR 22 [family law and
guardianship records], parties shall
not include, and if present shall redact, the following
personal identifiers from all documents filed with the
court, whether filed electronically or in paper, unless
necessary or otherwise ordered by the Court.
(A) Social Security Numbers. If the Social Security
Number of an individual must be included in a
document, only the last four digits of that number
shall be used.
(B) Financial Account Numbers. If financial account
numbers are relevant, only the last four digits
shall be recited in the document.
(C) Driver's License Numbers.
But that’s just what you must redact, not what you can. A call to the
recorder’s office might be in order for a quick reference to any relevant
WAC provision. I don’t know why much of anything personal on a death
certificate needs to be included, though: home address, names of parents,
cause of death, etc. All that’s really needed is name, date of birth and
date of death, right? I mean, the deed by which the decedent took title
just has the name. I’d check with a title company to see what they really
need, and redact everything else, since identity theft has become so
prevalent.

Subject: [WSBAPT] Death Certificate redaction
Colleagues,
If needing to submit a death certificate for recording purposes (ie: Lack
of Probate, etc) what information do you redact? Obviously the SS#, but
is there other information that you would typically redact from public
view?
Thank you,
