The sign points out that the university, like the highway,
links Northern and Southern Idaho. Established Jan. 30,
1889, the land-grant institution opened in the fall of 1892
and now has eight colleges and a graduate school.”

Moscow got the better end of the deal when it gave up the state
capitol, which moved to Boise, in exchange for the state university,
which became a land grant institution.

Moscow got a bigger percentage of better quality of people, a better
sustainable and higher quality of life, and a naturally more modest
rate of growth that avoided the stresses and strains of over-rapid
expansion that Boise City and Ada County have been required to
sustain over the intervening decades.

May Moscow continue to enjoy its modest growth and continuing
successes.
