                                                There were children in attendance at my show a couple weeks ago at the Unitarian Church in Cheyenne, WY.  Adorable children.  Two girls, two boys, all six or seven years old, and one boy about two years old who loved to “dance” to my satire by rolling around on the carpet.  The kids watched the first half of the show, amazingly attentive, and spent the second half in an adjacent classroom.
                                                </p>

                                                After the show, the little crew approached me.  “Wanna hear ours?” said the older girl, clearly the ringleader.  “Your...song?” I said, noting the plastic Stratocaster Guitar Hero game controller she held at the ready.  “Yes.  Wanna hear our song?”   “Of course I want to hear your song,” I said.
                                                </p>

                                                She began “strumming” the Strat, and one of the boys positioned his arms air-guitar style and “strummed” along.  And they all sang a tuneless, but enthusiastic tune, punctuating each syllable with a “strum”:
                                                </p>

                                                NO-BODY LIKES TRUMP!<br>
                                                TRUMP IS DUMB!<br>
                                                TRUMP IS a CHUMP!<br>
                                                HE LIKES to HUMP!<br>

                                                “Fantastic!”  I said, as the tiny guy rolled by.  A few minutes later I was packing up my CDs, and I noticed the ringleader girl there in front of me.  “Trump is dumb - that’s the truest part,” she said.  “We don’t really know if he likes to hump.”                                                </p>

                                                We made a point of booking a show in Flint, MI where a callous, thoughtless, some would say racist - I, for instance, would say racist - attempt by state officials and the state-appointed city manager to save money in that black-majority city has left 97,000 people lead-poisoned by their own drinking water.  Michael Moore calls the Flint water crisis a hate crime.  It’s hard to put a finer point on it than that.
                                                </p>
                                                <p>
                                                How many Mozarts are born among the poor?  That's one of the questions I ask myself when I'm singing "We Shall Overcome."  When I sing about my belief in social justice and my hope for a peaceful world, I find myself asking what gives rise to injustice, to poverty, to war?  I've set some of these questions to music - a counterpoint to this anthem of justice and peace.
