That injury occurred around seven o’clock during the height of the storm when a semi blew over on US Highway 195 near Wawawai Road just west of Pullman. The driver was pinned in the cab and was cut from the semi by Whitman County Fire District 12 volunteers. He was taken to Pullman Regional Hospital with minor injuries. The crash shut down all lanes of traffic for several hours. That was followed by dozens of calls for trees down and powerlines down throughout the Palouse. At least two homes sustained damage from falling trees one on Sunset Drive on Pullman’s Military Hill and another at Perkins Avenue and A Street in Colfax. A large tree fell and shut down B Street on Pullman’s College Hill. Nearby a tree hit several parked cars on Myrtle Street. Maybe the worst hit area was just West of Pullman along Brayton Road where about a half dozen power poles sheared off. A large tree shut down Albion Road near US Highway 195 and more poles were busted in two by the wind on Pullman Albion Road to the east. The power outages caused major problems in Pullman as several people ended up stuck in elevators on the Washington State University campus. All the lights on Bishop Boulevard and some on Main Street were out. City crews worked to install generators to the traffic signals to get them back on. In Moscow Volunteer Firefighter’s responded to about two dozen calls with the most extensive damage caused when a powerline was ripped from a home. Colfax fire crews ran a dozen calls with a tree blown over on West Street and another on Main Street near Zips. In north Albion a tree came down hitting a power pole and then rested on a home on Bidle Road.
