I asked a guy I know who works for the IDOT and he told me that the reason for so many "cameras" at that location is that they are doing a test of a bunch of different ways to control the lights at busy intersections to replace to old fashioned induction loops buried in the roadway. He told me that none of the devices are connected to recording equipment and the output is being monitored from an office in Lewiston with an eye to choosing a device that works well to control the flow of traffic in all weather conditions.
