Bundy, whose ancestors settled in the area in the late 1800s, refuses to acknowledge federal authority on public lands.</span></p><p style="margin-bottom: 21px;"><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">The bureau backed down during the showdown with Bundy and his armed supporters, citing safety concerns.
