I readily confess to being a Saundra-come-lately to the saga – I didn’t know anything about Patterson until the story hit the news. So, I could well be mistaken, but based on comments made on the news stories down south, it seems that no one dug into this POS’s background sufficiently before he was elected, or perhaps it just wasn’t published. Perhaps my idealism is showing, but I certainly hope that had his truly sordid past (“I didn’t rape her, even though I don’t remember anything about that time because I had chemo for Hep C” BS) been available to voters, he <b>never</b> would have been elected. Assuming, of course, the whacko Tea Bagger effect hasn’t completely infected this state as the plague it truly is, in the same way some of those nut jobs think it’s perfectly OK to place others at risk of public health epidemics because “vaccines are a government conspiracy” and “I can raise my livestock – and grow my yogurt cultures – in any way I see fit to sell commercially because this <b>is</b> Idaho where personal profit is the real God” crap.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D'>So, maybe the bigger story is the consequences the Internet killing local journalism? Print newspapers have been going belly up – and investigative journalism has been cut to the bone in many/most markets – since more & more of us have turned to the Internet for news, and perhaps the virtual death of local investigative journalism in smaller markets is something worthy of discussion?<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D'>Of course, I’m at a loss for words on the risks for those of us in the rest of the state if such a thing can happen in the Boise area. Attack if you want, but I’ve seen quotes posted here on the Viz from local candidates, potential candidates, and failed (thank the good Lord) candidates that never were published in the local press, so POS candidates being elected due to . . . anemic local coverage absolutely <b>could</b> happen here.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D'>Saundra<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D'>Moscow, ID<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D'>Not to hurt our humble brethren is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough.
