<div><strong>Earlier this year, a study looking at the relationship between body weight and mortality rates got lots of press, and for good reason. </strong></div>
<div>The researchers, from the CDC and elsewhere, pooled data from 97 studies done in more than a dozen countries, totaling nearly 3 million people. The surprising results: Overweight people were found to have a 6 percent lower overall death rate than people of “normal” weight. The data were adjusted for age, gender and smoking.</div>
<div>But the picture is not black and white. Before you stock up on ice cream and doughnuts and cancel your gym membership, it’s important to look at the bigger picture. </div>
