<div dir="ltr">Multiple process breaks. How did the gun get in the backpack? It's early in the school year so maybe junior just grabbed any only backpack and was just inadvertently packing heat. The gun accidentally discharged? I've seen this sort of thing happen before once when I got into a huge fight with my brother and in anger he slammed the butt of his rifle on a table and it discharged into the ceiling. I'd guess in this case, the kid just plopped the pack down and maybe a pencil wedged into the trigger and Kapow! Does it really matter if there is no evidence of harmful intent? Someone was negligent and should be held accountable. While waiting for the opening bell in the cafeteria, the gun accidentally discharged once inside the boy's backpack at about 7:42 a.m. CT during breakfast and before school started at 8 a.m., school officials said.</span></div><div style="padding:0px;"><span style="">"Staff immediately took possession of that backpack," said Christian Ross, external communication analyst for Shelby County schools. "Our Shelby County school security team were contacted as well as local law enforcement. They're handling the investigation.
