Sorry but you may have the time to cook your own food all the time but I don't. Composting is a good idea but sorry I have no place to have one unless I put it in my living room. I do recycle as much as is allowed to be picked up. Bulk food is a good idea however if you don't use it all then you have to throw it out and I am sorry i don't have the money to just throw food away.</span></div><div><span>Sorry for the rant however no matter what the City does somebody is not going to be happy. Here is a thought maybe we just fight the fights worth fighting, is a little bit more money for trash service to have one can worth the fight? To some maybe.</span></div><div><br></div> <div style="font-family: times new roman, new york, times, serif; font-size: 12pt;"> <div

<div id="yiv197166191"><div><div style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);"><div>I am glad that city council is <span id="yiv197166191misspell-0"><span>hearing</span></span> from Moscow residents about trash pick up. The plan to offer 35,65,95 gal carts rewards the most wasteful of us. </div><div>Our small family produces almost no trash, yet we still pay $10.15 a month for trash service. <span id="yiv197166191misspell-0" class="yiv197166191mark">Ok</span>, that charge is for the common good, just like libraries, police and fire services. We don't want to see trash thrown in alleys or out along country roads, so we pay the service even though we really don't use it much.</div><div>Here are some tips to reduce waste.</div><div>*Of course, recycle. It is not difficult or time consuming. </div><div>*Compost food and yard wastes. It makes good soil and good sense.
</div><div>*Buy bulk as much as possible. You can even buy bulk milk at the Co-Op
thereby eliminating the non-recyclable sanitary containers which are no longer accepted. <span id="yiv197166191misspell-1" class="yiv197166191mark">Winco</span> has a huge bulk section. So does <span id="yiv197166191misspell-2" class="yiv197166191mark">Rosauers</span>.</div><div>*Cook your own food. Buying ready made meals generates huge amounts of often non-recyclable packaging.</div><div>*Take bags to the store rather than having them give you bags each time you buy something. I use a backpack or two and I find carrying my purchases in them much more <span id="yiv197166191misspell-4"><span>convenient</span></span> than having those plastic bags <span id="yiv197166191misspell-5"><span>dangling</span></span> from my arms.</div><div>*Think <span id="yiv197166191misspell-6"><span>before</span></span> you buy things. Do we really need this?</div><div>Who <span id="yiv197166191misspell-7"><span>among</span></span> us thinks about what happens
to the trash we generate? Like magic it's gone. But it's not magic, and costs the environment
and the community not only dollars, but also all the fuel necessary to haul it far from our sight and <span id="yiv197166191misspell-3"><span>consciousnesses</span></span>. </div><div>So, support the Tag-it-all system we currently use. It is a system that charges people who use it. Isn't that how it is supposed to work?</div><div>Roger Hayes</div><div>Moscow<var id="yiv197166191yui-ie-cursor"></var></div></div></div></div><br>=======================================================<br> List services made available by First Step Internet,<br> serving the communities of the Palouse since 1994.<br> <a href="http://www.fsr.net/" target="_blank">http://www.fsr.net/</a><br> mailto:<a href="mailto:Vision2020@moscow.com" ymailto="mailto:Vision2020@moscow.com">Vision2020@moscow.com</a><br>=======================================================<br><br> </div> </div>
