<br>Maricopa is the Wild West compared to Idaho. Living in Arizona has changed my thoughts about a lot of issues I'd pretty much written in stone in my mind. <br><br>Some interesting crime statistics for the past 15 years or so, for Maricopa County ( I don't have time to find the link)... Crime has gone down, some crimes dramatically, the only crime which took a steep hike, was arson. Think it might have been the upside down housing market? *L* Oh, speaking of crime, the home invasions here are extremely violent. Sometimes, the criminals will break through the outside wall, to the inside of the house! Last summer, a man armed with a shotgun/rifle broke into a house where a 14 year old boy was watching is three younger siblings.. the 14 year old grabbed his dad's gun and shot the guy, seriously wounding him. I am thankful I live in a gated community. *grrrr* Never, ever thought I'd be living in a "gated community" My soul misses the crisp, fresh Idaho air. <br>

I hope this was really a real plot that was stopped, and not just
a lot of hot air. The authorities did what they had to do, play
it straight up, because anything else in light of recent events
would be foolhardy in the extreme, but it does have all the
earmarks of a young person in pain issuing what amounts to a cry
for help. Because if that's what it was, then her immediate
future is going to be one long nightmare instead, and she can kiss
goodbye any chance of getting any actual help any time soon.<br>

Law enforcement did what they had to do, but I fear that there
will be many such cases like this, and I doubt they will all be
crises that were successfully averted in the nick of time.<br>
<br>
I agree that her father did the right thing by locking up the
handguns and putting on the trigger guards, because you never know
for sure if she's serious or not.<br>
<br>
Maybe somewhere along the line she'll be able to come to grips
with her gender issues and others reactions to them that she's no
doubt encountered along the way. <br>

I'm sure I'll get a lot more hate on this list in response to this
post, but just know that I'm not trying to make some political
point in some kind of game of one-upmanship. Regardless of what
we end up doing with regards to assault weapons bans or gun
control legislation in general, how about we put some additional
funds towards helping people like her out, so people in her
situation don't end up in the same position she's in right now.
Whether that's the position of someone about to embark on a
rampage, or someone who is threatening to do so in order to draw
attention to her plight.<div><div class="h5"><br>

<p>Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies say they've arrested a
16-year-old girl who had a detailed plot to gun down
students at her Mesa high school and then kill herself.</p>
<p>MCSO said she made the threats on a transgender community
YouTube channel that said, in part, "I now literally have a
plan of seriously hurting ... killing ... murdering people
in my highschool. And a playlist to do it."</p>
<p>MCSO said they were notified of the post by the Toronto
Police Department in Canada late Wednesday night after the
owner of the website contacted Toronto police.</p>

<p>The 16-year-old student, who also serves as a student aid at
Red Mountain High School, was arrested Thursday morning at her
Mesa home.</p>
<p>Sheriff's detectives said according to her interview, she was
scared because she thought she may carry out the plans
detailed in the post and "(explicit) kill everyone."</p>
<p>The girl also admitted to detectives that she had thought
about the killings for a while and was planning to "cut the
wires to the security carts" on campus to slow down the
response during an explosion and shoot people from the other
side of a fence.</p>
<p>Authorities found three handguns in her home, including a
semi-automatic .40 caliber, a .357 revolver and a .22
revolver.</p>
<p>The girl's parents told detectives that she has a history of
mental health issues, has been seen by a psychiatrist and had
recently been asking about where the guns were being kept in
the house. The girl's father said he was alarmed by the
comments and placed trigger locks on each gun and put them in
a gun safe.</p>
<p>The girl is currently being charged as a juvenile for one
count of computer tampering and one count of threatening and
intimidating. Detectives continue to investigate and say
additional charges are possible.</p>
<p>MCSO said at this time they do not believe the school was in
"imminent danger."</p>
<p>Red Mountain High School plans to conduct final exams on
Friday as scheduled, with an increased presence of security on
campus.</p>
<p>Sheriff Joe Arpaio said the threats are not related to last
Friday's shooting in Connecticut. Arpaio said the threats were
made a week before the mass shooting.<br>

D'ALENE, Idaho</b>—Schools in Coeur d'Alene will
be closed on Friday because of persistent rumors of
plans for a school shooting.</span></p>
<p><span style="background-color:rgba(255,255,255,0)">The
Coeur d'Alene School District made that decision
because of the anxiety that has spread through the
community about the threat.</span></p>
<p><span style="background-color:rgba(255,255,255,0)">The
school district says in a press release that law
enforcement has not isolated a credible threat, but
the district feels the ability to have a productive
school day has been compromised.</span></p>
<p><span style="background-color:rgba(255,255,255,0)">The
school day will be made up on Feb. 15, which had
been previously designated as a day off.</span></p>
