We could separate inhalation/exhalation from respiration in the womb, and just concern ourselves with respiration. That is to say, a born person (not necessarily a ‘born again’ person) needs to respire (absorb oxygen at a cellular level), so one inhales/exhales in order to accomplish respiration. But in the womb, inhalation/exhalation is unnecessary, since the mother’s blood supplies the oxygen, nutrients, etc . It is respiration per se that is necessary to sustain metabolic processes. ‘Breathing’ therefore, in the sense of respiration (oxygen/CO2 exchange) starts right away.. at conception.
