<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I like the idea a lot. That part of main is
dangerous for pedestrians, the traffic congestion is ridiculous, and most of the
parking is taken by people who work downtown and rush out to play vehicle
roulette every few hours to avoid a ticket. In the winter it is a dang disaster
waiting to happen, and any driver with sense just doesn't travel that two
blocks. Parking a block away would make little difference to ANYONE...a
central "pedestrian only" few blocks makes sense. Merchants downtown aren't
really "walk ins"; they are a destination for folks who want specific things.
people will walk 100 yards to get what they want...</FONT></DIV>

<DIV>The suggestion was brought up, in response to an article in today's (July

should be permanently barred from motor vehicles and, thus, creating a
pedestrian-only quad. I like it.</DIV>
