<div dir="ltr">OK, there's more to my position.<br><br>I think we need to stop thinking we can stop people from hating us by killing civilians and thinking that will make them stop hating us. It won't stop them from wanting to do something about it.<br><br>We are fools to think we can occupy Afghanistan and kill its people, and make them think they shouldn't fight us. The most natural response to an occupation is to fight it. Well, I suppose there's 'take it quietly,' too. Ever seen the people of Afghanistan take that approach? We've been there 11 years now, and we are no further ahead. We prop up an illegitimate, puppet government, and define as the enemy the people who don't recognize it. That policy continues to be the failure it has always been.<br><br>By bombing Pakistanis over the objection of the Pakistani government, we only breed more hatred towards us. Do you think they should love us for it? Do you really think they won't hate us for it? When we kill innocent people we only inspire more to rise up. We are destabilizing a government that has a nuclear arsenal. Are we even bothering to look down the road at the disaster that can cause?<br><br>It's bad policy for purely pragmatic reasons, let alone the immorality of killing these people. And let's be clear: since 2001, we're the ones killing thousands of people.
