<div>All humor aside, what is being overlooked in this thread, is the billboard that replaces in Chicago the "Unabomber believes in global warming" billboard, shown at the website below, that contains a factual claim that many think is not worthy of serious consideration:</div>
<div> </div><div>"Who to believe on climate</div><div>Heartland... Or EVERY National</div><div>Scientific Academy in the world?</div><div> </div><div><a href="http://climaterealityproject.org/2012/05/18/a-climate-reality-billboard/">http://climaterealityproject.org/2012/05/18/a-climate-reality-billboard/</a></div>
<div>------------------------</div><div>It is as though many believe this consensus among thousands of climate scientists that human impacts on climate are increasing in magnitude by the decade, as atmospheric CO2 level increases by 2 or 3 ppm every year, as it currently is, impacts that are and will have profound and long term consequences, is either a result of fraud, mind numbed conformism, or rampant gross incompetence, or a combination thereof, among the global scientific community.</div>
<div> </div><div>As Sam Harris wrote in "The End of Faith," "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence," though perhaps this phrase did not originate with him:</div><div><a href="http://www.examiner.com/review/the-end-of-faith-part-1">http://www.examiner.com/review/the-end-of-faith-part-1</a></div>
<div> </div><div>It is an extraordinary claim to assert there is either widespread fraud, mind numbed conformism, or rampant gross incompetence among climate scientists, on a global scale.</div><div> </div><div>I have not seen the extraordinary evidence that documents this claim.</div>

<p style="font-size:medium"> Dear
Friend,<br>
<br>
Did you hear about The Heartland
Institute's outrageous billboard
comparing people who believe in
climate change to mass murderers
and terrorists? It's possible you
missed it, since a firestorm of
criticism compelled them to take
down their ad in one day. <strong><a href="http://forms.climaterealityproject.org/page/m/396e8f2d/6fd6001d/19209018/19ba0ce0/2461378658/VEsE/" target="_blank">Take a look:</a></strong></p>

<p style="font-size:medium"> Since
the billboard is now empty, we are
reminding Heartland who is really
on the fringe here. Just for this
week, as Heartland convenes its
annual conference, we are putting
up our own ad in its place and on
eight other billboards nearby --
so that Chicagoans and everyone at
the conference will see our
response. And we are sharing this
ad far and wide.<br>
<br>
The Heartland Institute has a
history of spreading denial and
doubt about everything from
tobacco to climate change. Now,
they are associating everyone who
believes in climate science with
the worst of the worst.<br>
<br>
<strong>We can't let them have the
last word.</strong> Serious
leaders in science, business,
religion and government from
around the world have long
recognized the need to take action
to address the growing climate
crisis. Our billboard will reflect
their voices in the days ahead.
And we need your help.<br>
