After going to the Safeway in town, I then headed to the big park just off Mt. View Road--a few blocks from the Safeway. This is a favorite place for Akadia to play, as he is an 80lb black lab who needs to be able to run freely to get the exercise he needs. Shockingly we were approached by a city employee and told that I had to leash the dog. She told me I can play ball at the dog park.

This is very upsetting as I have been in that park dozens and dozens of times to play ball with my dog. I have witnessed dozens and dozens of other people using the same park to exercise their dog off-leash. The dog park is a tiny fenced in area overcrowded with dogs and people and I refuse to take my dog there. Where can I take my dog on a Saturday morning at 8am to play ball? Is there a park in this town where dogs can be off-leash? I have been chased out of East City Park and now I have been chased out of the big ball park on Mt. View.

It appears to me that the city and the parks and recreation department are doing a poor job in providing places for tax-paying citizens and dog-loving people a place to take their pets to get exercise and enjoy their parks.
