I guess I am really still missing something.

Let's say that the ostensible public policy of Moscow is to provide on street parking during normal business hours for the downtown business customers..

So then allow 2 hour parking in a given area from 9 to 6, Mon - Sat. So any vehicle parked in the area before or at 9 and still there after 11 would be eligible for a parking ticket. Why is there a need to prohibit parking otherwise?

If some leaves there car overnight and retrieves it before 11, what harm is done? If it is still there after 11, it is eligible for a ticket like anyone else. Remember those parking overnight are also customers of downtown businesses, to wit, the bars, etc.

If parking for downtown business customers is really the policy, why can people purchase all day parking permits in the city parking lots?

The real truth is that parking policy favors the privileged: those that can pay. It has been my observation that a lot of downtown parking is used by business owners and employees. Why are these people more important than others such as those that wish to be responsible by not driving when impaired?

How much money and time is being wasted enforcing the no overnight parking ban?

w.

On Thu, Feb 9, 2012 at 8:28 PM, Wayne Price <bear@moscow.com> wrote:
get plowed over and over, on a regular basis when it snows?

Has everyone else gotten the card hung on their door by the city outlining which streets are involved? It shows an OVAL area, not a rectangle, and only covers "half" blocks in some areas.
So only the parts of the streets are involved?
Perhaps some signs saying "don't drink and drive" on the same post which state the parking hours is in order.
A few years (well, quite a few years) ago, we were celebrating our anniversary and called a friend to drive us home, leaving our car parked off Main near Mingles. We got a ticket, naturally. Wondered what the incentive to find a ride might be for an inebriated younger person who didn't want to pay a parking ticket and didn't have the experience/age to really understand the consequences of DUI...
One question concerning overnight parking on Main Street that has been discussed here on the Viz that should be brought before the PWF Committee . . .

What options are there for somebody, parked on Main Street, who (late in the evening) decides they have had too much to drink . . . and drive? Would they be legally permitted to leave their vehicle parked on Main Street overnight?
