That election is done, Tom. From the column I cited yesterday, now it's a matter of electing a person who is doing this:<br><br>'He has <a target="_blank" href="http://www.tnr.com/article/politics/the-cheney-fallacy">entrenched</a>
for a generation the once-reviled, once-radical Bush/Cheney Terrorism
powers of indefinite detention, military commissions, and the <a target="_blank" href="http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/04/expert_consensus_obama_aping_bush_on_state_secrets.php">state secret privilege</a>
as a weapon to immunize political leaders from the rule of law. He has
shielded Bush era criminals from every last form of accountability. He
has <a target="_blank" href="http://www.thenation.com/article/156997/obamas-drug-war">vigorously prosecuted</a> the cruel and supremely <a target="_blank" href="http://www.drugpolicy.org/issues/race-and-drug-war">racist</a> War on Drugs, <a target="_blank" href="http://www.npr.org/2011/07/12/137791944/obama-cracks-down-on-medical-marijuana">including</a>
those parts he vowed during the campaign to relinquish — a war which
devastates minority communities and encages and converts into felons
huge numbers of minority youth for no good reason. He has empowered
thieving bankers through the Wall Street bailout, Fed secrecy, <a target="_blank" href="http://www.thestreet.com/story/11226640/1/obama-wants-schneiderman-to-back-off-banks-report.html">efforts to shield</a> mortgage defrauders from prosecution, and the appointment of an <a href="http://www.salon.com/2009/07/13/goldman/">endless roster</a> of former Goldman, Sachs executives and lobbyists. He’s <a target="_blank" href="http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/covert-war-us-iran/story?id=15174919">brought</a> the nation to a full-on Cold War and a covert hot war with Iran, on the<a target="_blank" href="http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/30/world/middleeast/30iht-politicus30.html"> brink</a> of far greater hostilities. He has made the U.S. as <a target="_blank" href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-15014037">subservient</a> as ever to the destructive agenda of the right-wing Israeli government. His support for some of the Arab world’s <a target="_blank" href="http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/30/world/middleeast/with-30-billion-arms-deal-united-states-bolsters-ties-to-saudi-arabia.html">most repressive regimes</a> is as strong as ever.'<br><br>George Bush is gone. His damage lives on, perpetuated by the guy I voted for, as I think you did, Tom.<br><br>I won't attack Bush any more for the things Obama is continuing to do, without attacking Obama for it too. I don't want to be that kind of partisan. I criticized Bush supporters for that kind of conduct, so I'd better not do it myself.<br><br>Again, it seems to me that the only person running for President who is against what I've described above is Paul. If he weren't running, we wouldn't even talk about these things; we would give it our silent blessing. Isn't that what our silence amounts to, a blessing?<br><br>Sunil<br><br><div><div id="SkyDrivePlaceholder"></div><hr id="stopSpelling">CC: vision2020@moscow.com<br>From: thansen@moscow.com<br>Subject: Re: [Vision2020] Fw: On Ron Paul and Racism<br>Date: Sun, 1 Jan 2012 11:02:12 -0800<br>To: sunilramalingam@hotmail.com<br><br><div>Sunil suggests:</div><div><br></div><div>"<span class="ecxApple-style-span" style="font-size:15px;font-family:Tahoma">I think we ought not to elect people willing to abuse their power, and seize power they do not constitutionally possess, with the hope that the court will reign them in."</span></div><div><font class="ecxApple-style-span" face="Tahoma" size="4"><span class="ecxApple-style-span" style="font-size:15px"><br></span></font></div><div><font class="ecxApple-style-span" face="Tahoma" size="4"><span class="ecxApple-style-span" style="font-size:15px">Like declaring war . . . on "terror"?<br></span></font><br><div>Seeya later, Moscow.</div><div><br></div><div>Tom Hansen</div><div>Spokane, Washington</div><div><br></div><div>"If not us, who?</div><div>If not now, when?"</div><div><br></div><div>- Unknown</div></div><div><br>On Jan 1, 2012, at 10:56 AM, Sunil Ramalingam <<a href="mailto:sunilramalingam@hotmail.com">sunilramalingam@hotmail.com</a>> wrote:<br><br></div><blockquote>I think we ought not to elect people willing to abuse their power, and seize power they do not constitutionally possess, with the hope that the court will reign them in.</blockquote><div></div></div> </div></body>
