<P>A new poll has found that 47% of Canadians believe that religion does more
harm than good, while 53% believe the opposite.</P>
<P>Canadians are also split on whether ‘religious practice is an important
factor in the moral lives of Canadians,’ with 49% agreeing with the statement
and 51% disagreeing.</P>
<P>The Ipsos Reid poll also found that 64% of Canadians believe religion raises
more questions than answers in their personal lives and in a larger sense.
However, 90% of those who said they attend a religious service on a weekly basis
agree that ‘religion helps them find answers to what’s going on in the world an
in their own life.’</P>

<P>Some more findings:</P>
<UL>
<LI>53% of respondents said they believe in God. (Interestingly, 28% of those
identified as Protestants, 33% of Catholics, and 23% of those who attend
weekly religious services do not.)
<LI>29% believe in heaven and 19% believe in hell. (71% of weekly service
goers believe in heaven and 54% of them believe in hell.)
<LI>89% are ‘completely comfortable’ being around people with different
religious beliefs.
<LI>71% said they do not think religious people make better citizens.</LI></UL>
<P>The national survey of 1,129 adults was conducted this month for the Global
TV/CTS Television show <A href="http://www.contextwithlornadueck.com/"

percentage points 19 times out of 20.</P>
