Counting consensus is a political game. Science is not a
democracy. The earths climate is a complicated and chaotic system.
Eventually, we'll have a pretty good (as in useful) understanding of
it as a big picture. Right now, we're in a period of rapid
progression but we are a long way from having a handle on it. Just
my opinion. <br>
<br>
This desire to say we've got it pretty much pinned down is purely
political, and political influence and interference will only slow
down the process of learning. Polling scientists doesn't help the
science. And political hacks like Perry using skeptics to make
political points is just as bad. Just step back and let the science
happen.<br>
<br>
In the meantime, there are plenty of reasons to get rid of our oil
addiction and plenty of solutions that don't involve sketchy carbon
credit schemes and other scams-in-the-making. Why don't we all meet
in the middle and work it from that angle? If it were me, I'd put
more money into nuclear technology research (thorium reactors, safer
reactor designs, etc), smart grid technology, and large-scale
battery technology to even out the spikes in the supply from other
alternative energy solutions.<br>

Rick Perry suggests global warming is a hoax<br>
<br>
Perry said scientists are coming forward almost daily to question
"the<br>
original idea that man-made global warming is what is causing the<br>
climate to change." He said the climate is changing but that it
has<br>
been changing "ever since the earth was formed."<br>
-------------------------------<br>
Rick Perry's recent comments on global warming (more lower down)
are<br>
so misinformed, it is scary. Many scientists with relevant
expertise<br>
with no corruption involved are coming forward to call for action
to<br>
address human impacts on climate, not to question whether there is<br>
credible scientific evidence human impacts are profound. Perry
must<br>
be living in a bubble or in denial.<br>
<br>
Consider the following from the Union of Concerned Scientists:<br>
<br>
<a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://www.ucsusa.org/global_warming/solutions/big_picture_solutions/scientists-and-economists.html">http://www.ucsusa.org/global_warming/solutions/big_picture_solutions/scientists-and-economists.html</a><br>
<br>
Scientists and Economists' Call to Action<br>
<br>
The U.S. Scientists and Economists' Call for Swift and Deep Cuts
in<br>
Greenhouse Gas Emissions is a call to our nation's leaders to
require<br>
immediate, deep reductions in heat-trapping emissions that cause<br>
global warming. The statement is endorsed by more than 2,000<br>
scientists and economists with expertise relevant to our
understanding<br>
of the scientific and economic dimensions of climate change, its<br>
impacts, and solutions. This marks the first time leading U.S.<br>
scientists and economists have joined together to make such an
appeal.<br>
<br>
The statement was released in March 2010 and delivered to every
member<br>
of Congress, but is still open to new signatures. Endorsers from
ten<br>
states personally delivered the letter to their Senators and<br>
Representatives, just as Congress is considering climate and
energy<br>
legislation.<br>
<br>
This unprecedented list of signatories includes eight Nobel Prize<br>
winners in science or economics, 32 members of the National
Academy of<br>
Sciences, 10 members of the National Academy of Engineering, 11<br>
recipients of the MacArthur Fellowship, three National Medal of<br>
Science recipients, and more than 100 members of the
Intergovernmental<br>
Panel on Climate Change, which shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.<br>

Global Warming<br>
<br>
The Earth is warming and human activity is the primary cause.
Climate<br>
disruptions put our food and water supply at risk, endanger our<br>
health, jeopardize our national security, and threaten other basic<br>
human needs. Some impacts—such as record high temperatures,
melting<br>
glaciers, and severe flooding and droughts—are already becoming<br>
increasingly common across the country and around the world. So
far,<br>
our national leaders are failing to act quickly to reduce<br>
heat-trapping emissions<br>

Rick Perry suggests global warming is a hoax<br>
<br>
By Brian Montopoli<br>
<br>
Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry said Wednesday
morning<br>
that he does not believe in global warming science and suggested
it is<br>
grounded in scientists manipulating data for financial gain.<br>
<br>
The Texas governor was appearing at a New Hampshire breakfast
event<br>
with business leaders Wednesday morning when he said "there are a<br>
substantial number of scientists who have manipulated data so that<br>
they will have dollars rolling into their projects."<br>
<br>
Perry said scientists are coming forward almost daily to question
"the<br>
original idea that man-made global warming is what is causing the<br>
climate to change." He said the climate is changing but that it
has<br>
been changing "ever since the earth was formed."<br>
<br>
Perry added that "the issue of global warming has been
politicized,"<br>
and argued that America should not spend billions of dollars<br>
addressing "a scientific theory that has not been proven, and from
my<br>
perspective is more and more being put into question."<br>
