There's been construction on I-90 as soon as you hit Spokane that
goes on for a few miles. Traffic is merged into single lanes for
part of the stretch (or at least it was as recently as last
Thursday), so that's probably the reason.

Paul

P.S. People in Spokane don't know how to merge very well, I've
noticed...
If we take the route to be as reported in the LMT and the
MPDN,
as correct [not necessarily a valid assumption] . . .
then there must be some obstacle across Spokane and on to CdA
[freeway reconstruction?], or from Colfax to Spokane, and also
from Pullman to Moscow, that requires connecting from US-195
to US-95 near the top of the Lewiston Hill, then north on 95,
through Moscow, and on to CdA and I-90 to Montana???
Anyone know how to sleuth out the barrier from Colfax to
Spokane
to CdA?

Mystery loads coming through Palouse

Four overlegal
equipment shipments going through SR 26, US 95
Sunday

Four overlegal loads will
travel up U.S. Highway 95 late Sunday and early
Monday after entering Idaho through Washington
State Route 195 above the Lewiston grade.

Ryash Transport of
Alberta, Canada, is hauling the loads from the
Port of Vancouver for an unknown company neither
the Washington nor Idaho transportation
departments had information about Friday. An
employee of Ryash Transport declined to name the
company when reached by phone Friday.

The loads include two
hoppers - large pyramidal containers used in
industrial processes to hold particles collected
from the air - both more than 120,000 pounds,
and two platforms - at least one described as a
radar platform - both weighing 77,000 pounds.

One hopper and both
platforms measure 20-23 feet wide and will take
up two lanes of traffic heading north on U.S.
95, Rush said, but Ryash's transportation plan
outlines turnouts and delays must be limited to
15 minutes.

The four loads will leave
the Port of Vancouver an hour apart starting 10
p.m. Saturday on Interstate 5, connect to
Interstate 405 through Seattle/Bellevue - this
portion of the trip can only be done after 2:30
a.m. - to Interstate 90 to state Highway 26 all
the way to Colfax and then to S.R. 195, said
Alice Fiman, a spokeswoman for the Washington
State Department of Transportation. Those loads
will be accompanied by Washington State Patrol
as required under their permits, Fiman said.

The loads will also enter
Idaho an hour apart starting 10 p.m. Sunday,
said Adam Rush, spokesman for the Idaho
Transportation Department. He said ITD does not
have a final destination for the load as Ryash's
transportation plan states the loads will then
connect back to I-90 and into Montana.

The Idaho State Police
will not provide an escort, Rush said, as ITD
does not typically require it for an overlegal
load. Imperial Oil/ExxonMobil has contracted
with ISP to escort its refinery equipment
shipments to the Montana border, but was not
required to by ITD, Rush said. Brandon
