It grew out of the experience of English Civil War (King tried to disarm Protestants), and the fear of the States that the U.S. Federal government would take control of the state militias. It's wording and punctuation was transcribed differently, and the wording was changed in amending, so that no one really knows the exact intent. Well-meaning people can interpret the Second Amendment many ways, and they do.

Ron Force
Moscow Idaho USA

<div style="font-family:

I got my definition at dictionary.com. It was the last definition for the verb "bear"

"22. to have and use; exercise: to bear authority; to bear sway."

Perhaps it's a gun lover conspiracy to change the word to fit their favor?

If "to use" is not a legitimate definition of the word, I apologize. If that's the case, all government would have to do is heavily regulate ammunition if they really wanted to limit death by fire-arm.

Although probably not in Idaho since its firearm amendment says:

"No law shall impose licensure, registration or special taxation on the
ownership or possession of firearms or ammunition."

In otherwords, good luck regulating Idaho's 'militia.'

I doubt the founders intended for every person to be able to keep and bear arms. At least they wouldn't want slaves and women to have that right considering the disparity of
the day. But they may have wanted militias to have access to the best weapons available.

gclev

=======================================================
List services made available by First Step Internet,
serving the communities of the Palouse since 1994.
http://www.fsr.net
mailto:Vision2020@moscow.com
=======================================================
