<p class=MsoNormal>The used van Ralph Fink bought some days back didn't purr
like a kitten when he started the engine, but there was one living on the spare
tire mounted behind the rear axle.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Fink named him Lucky.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>The 5-week-old tuxedo kitten is "about as lucky as
could be," said Fink, a Middletown resident and the owner of Advanced
Service Air Conditioning and Heating. "He was dehydrated, he could have
fallen out. He's lucky to be here."<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Fink said Lucky, who was found on top of the spare tire
tucked under the van, must have been hiding on the tire for at least several
days -- he picked up the white Ford E250 van Saturday and discovered the kitten
Tuesday.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>An attendant at the Rosemont Service Center, where Fink
picked up the van, told him stray cats hang around the shop, he said.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>He suspects Lucky's mother most likely helped him get up
there and then jumped down when the car began to move.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>"I was surprised to see him there," he said.
"I can't figure out how he got up there."<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Lucky was discovered by two of Fink's employees, Dennis
Goetz and Mark Rolkey.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Rolkey said they heard mewling coming from the van as they
were tuning it up but couldn't figure out where it was coming from. After a
thorough search, they found Lucky.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Lucky was covered in oil and very dehydrated, but after a
bath and several days of care, Fink said the domestic shorthair kitten is
playful and lovable.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>"He just purrs and nuzzles all the time," he said.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Fink said Lucky has gained at least a pound since being
discovered. Lucky recently went to the veterinarian and was given a clean bill
of health. He also received all of his first shots. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>"He came around within a day and started to be a real
happy kitty," Fink said. "Now he's as inquisitive as heck."<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Fink is hoping to find him a home and doesn't think it will
be hard -- Lucky already knows how to use a litter box, he said.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoNormal>Even though Lucky doesn't get along with Fink's two older
cats, Fink said he will keep the kitten if no one adopts him.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoNormal>Rolkey agrees and wants Fink to keep Lucky.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoNormal>"The guys want to have a shop cat," Fink said.
"They get a kick out of him."<o:p></o:p></p>
