I certainly can't see myself looking down on total strangers based on whether or not they are affiliated with a school that has a sports team I don't like. Maybe when I was in the third grade I could work up that sort of moral outrage about it, but I've since laid down that mantle and have moved on with my life. I think I'm better off for it.<br>

day after Boise State University president Bob Kustra blasted Idaho fans and
declared the annual Broncos-Vandals rivalry game all but dead, Idaho Gov. Butch
Otter said he would explore options for keeping the game going.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12pt">“I
think it’s healthy, I think it’s a good thing for us to have and I
think it’s a great tradition that we’ve had,” Otter said
before the Boise Metro Chamber luncheon where he was seated at the head table
with Kustra. “… I hope we can do everything we can do to make it
continue.”</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12pt">Boise
State is leaving the Western Athletic Conference for the Mountain West
Conference on July 1, 2011. Idaho is a member of the WAC.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12pt">“I
don’t know what my options are, what my authorities are,” said Otter,
who played spring football at then-Boise Junior College in 1964 but never
played in a game. “Personally, I’m all for it. Administratively, I
don’t know what my authorities are.”</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12pt">Otter
said he would have his attorney, David Hensley, explore his options.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12pt">Kustra
told the Idaho Statesman’s editorial board that he refuses to travel to
Moscow for games because “it’s a culture that is nasty, inebriated
and civilly doesn’t give our fans the respect that any fan should expect
when visiting an away game.” Boise State coach Chris Petersen said Monday
that he does not want to visit Moscow for games.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12pt">“Why
should we?” he said. “I don’t think our fans even like to go
up there.”</span></p>

continued: “I frankly don’t care whether we ever play ’em
again as long as it goes.”</span></p>

coach Robb Akey suggested Monday that the governor may have to get involved to
save the rivalry.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12pt">“It’s
a good thing for our state. It’s a good thing for both schools,”
Akey told reporters at the WAC football preview in Salt Lake City.
“I’m a proponent of keeping that thing going. It’s going to
come down to the two universities and maybe the governor saying, ‘Hey,
this is an important game that needs to be played and needs to be played home
and home or not at all.' ”</span></p>

said he wants the rivalry to continue.</span></p>

want them to do it for the right reason. I really think they’ve always
done it for the right reason in the past because they’ve enjoyed the
spirit, they’ve enjoyed the energy, the enthusiasm that builds for
it,” Otter said.</span></p>
