of Moscow was recognized for its “Moscow Commissions’ Fair and
Service to Commissions Award” program and its “Shop the
Market” program during the 63<sup>rd</sup> Association of Idaho Cities
Annual Conference, June 16-18, held at the Shilo Inn in Idaho Falls. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

Award program recognizes <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Idaho</st1:State></st1:place>
cities for programs or projects created and implemented that improve quality of
life, solve community problems, reduce costs of government and increases
municipal services with minimal additional dollar outlay. Size of

and Service to Commissions Award - </span></font></b><font size=2><span
style='font-size:11.0pt'>Since 1972 the City of <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City
w:st="on">Moscow</st1:City></st1:place> has used volunteer commissions to
assist the Mayor and Council in policy research and development, citizen
engagement, planning and other important roles. Currently the
city’s volunteer talent has grown to include 10 volunteer commissions and
nearly 100 volunteers. The Moscow Commissions’ Fair gives
commissioners the opportunity to showcase their work on behalf of the city and
also serves as an opportunity to recruit new volunteers. The Mayor and
City Council recognize three outstanding commission volunteers with an annual
“Service to Commission Award.” The event is free and open to
the public and is advertised in the local papers along with a thank you to
commission members for their volunteerism.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

Market - </span></font></b><font size=2><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>In September
2008 the “Shop the Market” program was launched by the City of <st1:place
w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Moscow</st1:City></st1:place>. The venue,
the Farmers Market, which has become a popular <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City
w:st="on">Moscow</st1:City></st1:place> tradition since it was first
established in 1977. Shop the Market allows area families to use their
food stamp benefits and State of <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Idaho
Quest Card</st1:State></st1:place> child support funds at the Farmers
Market. Families can go the booth located in the center of the Market and
swipe their cards and receive “Market Money” scrip. Vendors
then accept the scrip for approved purchases of fresh fruits & vegetables,
eggs, bread, meat, cheese, honey, seeds and plant starts. Vendors, in
turn, save and later submit their scrip for reimbursement checks.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
